Dunkerque Series (2011 - 2013)
Dunkerque is an unnoted industrial harbour city in the most northeastern point of France, squeezed between the more famous Calais and the very touristic Belgian coast. Inspired by William Eggleston (cfr. Spirit of Dunkerque, 2008) I discovered Dunkerque as a very gripping and intruiging place to wander in. For over a year, in order to capture all seasons and cover the entire area, I paid several visits to the vast coastline, the raw industries, wastelands and suburbs of Dunkerque. I could define my way of working as one of free expression and aimless wandering. Strolling around and identifying situations, compositions and details of the world surrounding us. Isolated in the frame of the photograph and cut off from the context I transform a banal reality into something enigmatic.
